Canada trip - Day 10 - 11

Day one: we woke up to find a family of elk grazing around our campground.  They stay in the valley to avoid predators.  Since we had been on the road for 10 days, it was time to do laundry.  We got home to find the entire elk herd grazing around and through our campsite.  We managed to get some cool picutes and video.  We the late afternoon  kicking around the town of Jasper.  Unforturnately, we encountered torrential rain and made a run for the truck.  We were supposed to have dinner out that night to celebrate Gloria’s birthday but just had dinner back at camp.

Day two: We hiked to Valley of the five lakes.  As we are driving to the trail head we see a   grizzly bear just off the side of the road which always gets you thinking.  Gloria made sure that I had the Bear Spray handy.  There wasn’t too much elevation gain and the lakes were nice. We hiked about 6 miles in total.

After lunch we drive over to Maligne Canyon.  The walk down to the water falls was short and extremely steep.  The falls are very dramatic as shown below.

We then drove up the canyon to Medicine Lake.  There was a fire in 2016 that burned both sides of the canyon but the lake was very impressive.

Further up the canyon is Maligne Lake which is one of the largest natural lakes in Canada.  We had planned to take one of their boat cruises but they were booked for the three days we had available.  The view from our location was still pretty dramatic - it even snowed lightly while we there.
