Labor Day @ Clear Creek
We arrived on Thursday around 1:00 and set up the trailer. There were only a few sites taken this early in the week but one of those is the Group Site. A charter school in Santa Fe at the beginning of each year takes their eighth grade students on a two night camping trip. There were 75 students and eight adults. Fortunately, They were on their last night but it was quite noisy. Kids making noise doing their thing is not so bad. They were good about slowing the noise output at around 10:00. They must have made quite a mess because the afternoon after they left the ranger came and power washed the place.
Friday - we went for a day hike in the San Pedro Wilderness. That afternoon Francie, George, Crystal, Sylvia and Joe showed up. We had a get together at the fire pit that night. Late Friday night we got a pretty good rain but started to clear up Saturday morning. I am having trouble with the solar panels - just need a couple of hours of sunshine. I have also installed a 1000W inverter so we can run some 110 devices as well as charging phones and iPads. We do not want those dying on us. 😩 Unfortunately, we’re not getting much out of it without the solar panels giving more output.
Saturday- We drove to Cuba to pick up some items we needed (OK, ice for margaritas). Jessica and Josh came up for hamburgers, chicharones burritos (George’s specialty) and about two hours of a good rain. Of course, we then hear water dripping off the trees all night but there are worse things to fall asleep listening to. Wet wood made the nightly fire a little tougher to get started but we have some seasoned outdoorsmen, so no problem.
Sunday- We started off with clear skies so the solar is doing its thing. We managed to go for short hike in morning but the rest of day was pretty lazy. Got some family and kindle reading time in. The family gathering was at our fire pit tonight which went off without a hitch.
Monday - today everyone leaves except us. We decided to stay an additional day. We should have the campground to ourselves. The campground has a nice vibe when there is no one else around. Starting out cloudy - see how the solar works out. We ended up with one other campground buddy but was nice having more solitude. Spent most of the afternoon at Theresa’s place. We got some more rain in the afternoon. The solar was not very useful. We ran the generator to keep batteries loaded.
Tuesday - loaded up the trailer and headed home.
